The Methodist Tamil Church, Vepery, traces its origin to 1874 with the arrival of William Taylor in Madras, which led to the formation of the Methodist Episcopal Church among Tamil believers.
A permanent church was established at Vepery, and the present historic church building was dedicated in 1917, marking a major milestone in its growth. Through the 20th century, the church strengthened its evangelistic, educational, and musical ministries despite periods of challenge and transition.
From the 1970s onward, the church expanded its outreach through village ministries, regional conferences, and active lay organizations. In recent decades, the church has embraced modernization, media ministry, and social outreach while remaining rooted in its mission to glorify Christ.
At Methodist Tamil Church, Vepery, we are more than a place of worship—we are a family united in faith, love, and service. With a rich heritage spanning over 150 years, we remain committed to sharing the message of Christ while meeting the spiritual and community needs of today.
